The Legislature / Direct election of Senators?
« Last post by Jim Nunziato on February 05, 2014, 12:19:41 PM »
Article 1, Section 3 of our Constitution stated:

"The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote."

The Seventeenth Amendment changed that to read:
"The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote...."

Do you think it was a good change? Should the People directly their Senators, rather than the Legislatures of their states?

House rules / Welcome to our forums!
« Last post by Administrator on February 05, 2014, 10:27:34 AM »
I want to thank you for visiting and/or joining our forums.

Our goal here is to learn about our Constitution, and what it means. All power and authority granted to the Federal Government by the Constitution is by consent of "We The People." We are not under control of the Federal Government, the Federal Government answers to "We The People."

These forums were created to be a friendly place for all to come together to discuss and learn our Constitution, and from each other. As we learn, we can then hold our elected representatives accountable to us and to our Constitution.

All the activity and discussion will take place here in the forums. We also have a separate, "library" website which contains some of our founding documents. If you wish to peruse the "library," you can click here, at the very bottom of every page, on the "Link to our Library," or at the very top left corner of each page, on the "MyConstitution.info" link.

As you read the Constitution in our library, you will find many reference links to either amendments, or arguments in either the Federalist or Anti-Federalist Papers. In order to understand our Constitution, and what it means, it helps to determine the intent of our Founding Fathers. We have included the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers to help in that endeavor.  How better to understand their intent than to read their own arguments for and against it? This linking process is still a work in progress, and far from complete.

I hope you enjoy all that is here, and will participate in lively discussion. Remember, if there is no discussion, there won't be much of a forum.

Enjoy!

House rules / The Rules - Short & Sweet
« Last post by Administrator on February 05, 2014, 09:52:10 AM »
1. Be nice.

2. No profanity, name calling,  personal attacks, threats, etc.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

We reserve the right to make any judgment call, and our word is final.  Use a little common sense when posting, and we'll do the same.

We want to generate civic interest in the younger generation, so all posts should be held to the PG-13 level. We want this to be a family-friendly forum, so you should feel comfortable with anything you write here being viewed by your mother, your child or your pastor.  If you want to discuss a topic that is not for children's eyes, let me know, and I can create a board that will require special access that will not be granted to children.

'Nuff said.

House rules / Why real names?
« Last post by Administrator on February 05, 2014, 09:48:27 AM »
Why do we want you to use your real name?  Simply, because when people hide behind an alias, on line, they are much more likely to say things they normally wouldn't in a face to face conversation, or if it was known who they were.

We used to run a computer bulletin board way back when the internet only needed 2 w's instead of 3.   ;D    It didn't start out to be, but it evolved into a political discussion forum. We all used our real names, and there was a good distribution of users with various points of view. In spite of our political differences, we all became friends, and had many lively and spirited discussions. We were receiving up to 200 posts a day! I would like to see an activity level of that caliber here, and it's much more likely if we all know who we're talking with, rather than someone hiding behind an alias.

Let's all make this a fun place to come together, and learn from each other.

Amen

Announcements / Welcome!!!
« Last post by Jim Nunziato on February 02, 2014, 02:20:08 PM »

Welcome to myconstitution.info discussion forums. It is here for the enjoyment of all. At our last "Lunch & Learn" get-together hosted by the Sentinel Patriot Club, I proposed an on-line forum where we could continue our discussions. It seemed to be pretty well received, so here it is.

It's our forum. For it to be successful, it takes participation. Don't be shy, we're all friends. Let's make it a fun place to visit, and keep the discussion lively and abundant.

Enjoy,

Jim

Consider this the "Living Room" where you can kick back and discuss anything that interests you.

Enjoy it and make it "home."
