The Legislature / Direct election of Senators?
« Last post by Jim Nunziato on February 05, 2014, 12:19:41 PM »Article 1, Section 3 of our Constitution stated:
"The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote."
The Seventeenth Amendment changed that to read:
"The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote...."
Do you think it was a good change? Should the People directly their Senators, rather than the Legislatures of their states?

It didn't start out to be, but it evolved into a political discussion forum. We all used our real names, and there was a good distribution of users with various points of view. In spite of our political differences, we all became friends, and had many lively and spirited discussions. We were receiving up to 200 posts a day! I would like to see an activity level of that caliber here, and it's much more likely if we all know who we're talking with, rather than someone hiding behind an alias.
